Hemp is one of the world's strongest and most durable fibres
Ever wondered why your hemp clothing lasts so much longer than your other clothing? Hemp has many astounding qualities, one of which is its incredible strength and durability thanks to being made from bast fibre –– one of the longest natural fibres that can be harvested in single lengths of many metres.
When hemp is harvested the soft and stringy bast fibres are stripped away from the woody inner stalk of the tall plant. Once these fibres have been spun into yarn the original strength of the bast fibre is retained. This is often why hemp fields grow very tall as their fibre is harvested from the tall stalk, not the leafy material or seeds.
