Hemp is biodegradable and compostable
Hemp is 100% biodegradable.
Synthetic materials such as nylon, acrylic and polyester (which are made from petrochemicals) are not readily biodegradable and can take up to 200 years to degrade, letting off harmful toxins and microplastics as they break down.
In Australia alone, an estimated 500,000 tonnes of textiles end up in landfill each year. As a conscious consumer every time we spend money we can be an agent for change – let’s consider the entire lifespan and environmental footprint of our clothing before and after their residency in our wardrobes.
There is no “away” when we throw away. Away is someone else’s here.
