Hemp is kind to our Earth
🌱 Hemp can prevent deforestation – Just 1 acre of hemp will produce cellulose fiber pulp that is equal to 4 acres of trees, which means that hemp could quite easily and efficiently replace the majority of items that are made of wood. It takes around four months for hemp to be ready for commercial harvest, it takes trees between 20 to 50 years.
🌱 Hemp is highly renewable and fast growing. Hemp matures in as little as 100 days and can be harvested up to three times per year. Hemp can also yield 200-250% more fibre in the same amount of land, comparative to cotton.
🌱 Hemp doesn’t require pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers to grow, therefore there is no chemical leeching into ground water, river systems or waterways.
🌱 Hemp’s deep penetrating root system detoxifies the soil by removing harmful chemicals and pollutants in a natural process called phytoremediation. Hemp also rehabilitates and enriches soil with nitrogen and oxygen, restores pH levels and combats erosion.
🌱 Hemp requires about half the amount of water comparative to growing cotton. In some regions where water is scarce, hemp can offer new farming opportunities in sustainable industry.
🌱 Hemp is unmatched in its ability to absorb (sequester) carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
🌱 Hemp is 100% biodegradable and compostable. Compared to synthetic materials which can take hundreds of years to degrade, letting off harmful toxins and microplastics as they break down. Anything plastic can be made from hemp. Hemp bioplastic is completely biodegradable and takes around 3-6 months to decompose. It's 3.5x stronger than regular plastic, non-toxic and is extremely versatile – thousands of everyday plastic products could be made from hemp instead of petroleum.
