The yarn used to produce hemp fabric is made from the long bast fibres of the plant's outer stalk.

There is a common misconception that hemp textiles are made from the leaf of the plant, when in fact hemp fabrics and textiles are made from bast fibre – a long and stringy fibre on the outer layers of the plant’s stalk. Cut into long sections the bast fibre is then spun into yarn which is used in the knitting and weaving of numerous types of hemp products.
